MODERN SANCTUARY in GHANA
For Michelle’s home in Ghana, the vision was to transform an overlooked bedroom alcove into a sophisticated vanity while developing a cohesive bedroom concept around it.
The goal was not simply to make the room beautiful.
We wanted it to feel calm, contemporary, warm and deeply personal - a modern sanctuary that could honour its setting in Ghana without relying on predictable or overly thematic design.
The existing space gave us a strong architectural starting point: an unfinished doorway, a recessed area perfectly suited to a vanity, and a structural pillar separating the two.
Rather than disguising these elements, the concept uses them to create architectural rhythm.
The existing off-white pillar remains, providing a clean visual break between the vanity and the painted door.

A Modern Sanctuary
The Vanity
The previously unused alcove becomes the room’s everyday ritual space.
A floating natural-wood vanity introduces warmth while keeping the floor visually open. Above it, an oversized circular backlit mirror creates a soft focal point and ambient evening glow.
A slim illuminated display tower provides storage and an opportunity to style meaningful objects, fragrance, ceramics and natural elements.
The vanity is finished with:
Natural wood • Warm integrated lighting • Brushed brass • Sculptural accessories • Fresh botanicals • Layered natural textures
Rather than designing a traditionally feminine bedroom, we explored a more balanced interpretation of softness.
Clean architectural lines and darker accents provide structure, while textiles, botanical forms, warm lighting and carefully placed colour create comfort.
The result is a bedroom designed to work beautifully as a shared sanctuary, sophisticated enough for both partners while still allowing Michelle’s personality to come through.
Colour, light, texture, function and personal objects can work together to create spaces that encourage us to slow down, reconnect and experience our everyday rituals differently.
